Let's ask the great, great grand daughter of Brigham Young.... Sandra Tanner

Here is a little bit about the people who operate one of the best apologetic sites for exposing the myths and lies of mormonism:

Jerald and Sandra Tanner were raised in the LDS faith, both with a strong Mormon family history.

Jerald is the great-great-grandson of John Tanner, well known for his sizeable financial contributions to Joseph Smith and the LDS church in 1835 when the church was deeply in debt.

Sandra Tanner is a great-great-granddaughter of Brigham Young, the second president of the Mormon Church.

The Tanners are authors of over forty books on the subject of Mormonism.

They are well known for their extensive research into Mormon history and doctrine.

Utah Lighthouse™ Ministry provides these books and research, as well as photocopies and reprints of original Mormon documents to the public.

"Christians are afraid of offending the Mormons in these days so they have ceased from any substantive debate and evangelism of the Mormons, they just want to get along with the Mormons rather than convert them to True Christianity"  Sandra Tanner (paraphrase)

This is the magic seer stone used by Joseph Smith...this is one of the means by which the Book of Mormon was made known to a 17 year old...and you modern day Mormons are still buying your ticket to the magic show. What a FARCE! You people are deceived!  The poster child for GULLIBILITY is modern day Mormonism!

Joseph Smith claimed that he was given an instrument known as the Urim and Thummim to translate the gold plates of the Book of Mormon. This instrument consisted of "two stones in silver bows" (History of the Church, vol. 1, p. 12). Although he used the Urim and Thummim to translated the first 116 pages which were stolen, statements by witnesses to the translation indicate that after the theft occurred, he used a "seer stone." The Mormon historian B. H. Roberts wrote: "The Seer Stone referred to here was a chocolate-colored, somewhat egg-shaped stone which the Prophet found while digging a well in company with his brother Hyrum... It possessed the qualities of Urim and Thummim, since by means of it — as well as by means of the Interpreters found with the Nephite record, Joseph was able to translate the characters engraven on the plates." (Comprehensive History of the Church, vol. 1, p. 129) Seer stones were often used by magicians and money-diggers for divination. Evidence shows that in 1826 Joseph Smith was arrested and brought before a Justice of the Peace in Bainbridge, New York, for using his seer stone, which he placed in his hat to exclude the light, to divine the location of buried treasures (see Major Problems of Mormonism, p. 122-127).

David Whitmer, one of the Three Witnesses to the Book of Mormon, was not ashamed of the fact that Joseph Smith used a seer stone to translate the Book of Mormon. Whitmer, in fact, frankly admitted that Smith followed the occultic practice of placing the stone in his hat to translate the Book of Mormon: "I will now give you a description of the manner in which the Book of Mormon was translated. Joseph would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face into the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light; and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing.... Thus the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God, and not by any power of man." (An Address To All Believers In Christ, Richmond, Missouri, 1887, p. 12)

At first, David Whitmer felt that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that his use of the seer stone insured that he was giving true revelations. Just before the Book of Mormon was published, however, Whitmer was greatly shocked to learn that satanic revelations could also come to Joseph Smith through the same stone:

"When the Book of Mormon was in the hands of the printer, more money was needed to finish the printing of it. We were waiting on Martin Harris who was doing his best to sell a part of his farm, in order to raise the necessary funds. After a time Hyrum Smith and others began to get impatient,... Brother Hyrum was vexed with Brother Martin, and thought they should get the money by some means outside of him, and not let him have anything to do with the publication of the Book, or receiving any of the profits thereof if any profits should accrue.... Brother Hyrum said it had been suggested to him that some of the brethren might go to Toronto, Canada, and sell the copy-right of the Book of Mormon for considerable money: and he persuaded Joseph to inquire of the Lord about it. Joseph concluded to do so. He had not yet given up the stone. Joseph looked into the hat in which he placed the stone, and received a revelation that some of the brethren should go to Toronto, Canada, and that they would sell the copyright of the Book of Mormon. Hiram Page and Oliver Cowdery went to Toronto on this mission, but they failed entirely to sell the copyright, returning without any money. Joseph was at my father's house when they returned. I was there also, and am an eye witness to these facts.... Well, we were all in great trouble, and we asked Joseph how it was that he had received a revelation from the Lord for some brethren to go to Toronto and sell the copy-right, and the brethren had utterly failed in their undertaking. Joseph did not know how it was, so he enquired of the Lord about it, and behold the following revelation came through the stone: 'Some revelations are of God: some revelations are of man: and some revelations are of the devil.' So we see that the revelation to go to Toronto and sell the copyright was not of God, but was of the devil or the heart of man." (An Address To All Believers In Christ, 1887, p. 30-31)

Mormon historian B. H. Roberts made these comments about Whitmer's accusation: "...May this Toronto incident and the Prophet's explanation be accepted and faith still be maintained in him as an inspired man, a Prophet of God? I answer unhesitatingly in the affirmative. The revelation respecting the Toronto journey was not of God, surely; else it would not have failed; but the Prophet, overwrought in his deep anxiety for the progress of the work, saw reflected in the 'Seer Stone' his own thought, or that suggested to him by his brother Hyrum, rather than the thought of God... in this instance of the Toronto journey, Joseph was evidently not directed by the inspiration of the Lord." (A Comprehensive History of the Church, vol. 1, p. 165)

Prayers around the alter
(these guys make the catholics praying to Mary seem ordinary)

This is where they baptize the dead
its kind of spooky!

Baptism for the dead is usually performed by Mormon youths between the ages of twelve and eighteen. Dressed in white clothes, the youth enters the baptismal font and stands upright. Using his (her) left hand, he (she) grasps his (her) own right wrist, and uses the fingers of the right hand to hold the nose shut while being immersed. The person performing the baptism stands at the left side of the youth and grasps the youth’s right hand with his left hand. He then raises his right arm to an angle of ninety degrees ands repeats the baptismal prayer. Following the prayer, he places his right hand on the youth’s back and supports him (her) during immersion, raising the youth quickly out of the water to an upright position again, when the ceremony is repeated several more times on behalf of other deceased persons.

Mormon underwear that they consider holy
This is what we will be waving over the weekend to expose this foolishness!

Secret hand shakes
(how can any normal thinking person not see this is a cult?)

This page gives 10 outrageous but documented valid reasons why NOT to be a Mormon. This has been reproduced from an article by Johnathan Selby ( Having met and talked to some sincere Mormon missionaries recently it was obvious to me that Mormonism is not based on the Bible and reason. Instead of DONE it is DO - a religion of works to attain salvation.

1. Because I can not believe that there are old men living on the moon dressed up like Quakers!

Documentation: The following quotation of the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, As recorded in the Mormon's "Journal of Oliver Huntington" Vol.2, pg166 at Utah State Historical Society.

"The inhabitants of the moon are of a more uniform size than the inhabitants of the earth Being about 6 feet in height, they dress very much like the Quaker style and are quite general in style, or the fashion of dress. They live to be very old coming generally near 1000 years." Attributed to Joseph Smith

2. Because if I start hearing voices in my head I'm going to question my mental health- NOT become a Mormon!

Documentation: The following quotation is from one of the Mormon's "Three Witnesses" To their bible (The "Book of Mormon") who later realized his foolishness and Withdrew from the cult. David Whitmer's "Address to all believers" 1887,pg27

"If you believe my testimony to the book of Mormon: If you believe that God spoke to us three witnesses by His own voice, than I tell you that in June, 1838, God spake to me again by His own voice from the heavens, and told me to separate myself from among the Latter Day Saints."

3. Because my local police will get very upset if I start killing my neighbours for swearing and other things I don't like. (Does this man sound like a Christian?!).

Documentation: This quotation is from their successor to Joseph Smith, another one of Their "infallible" prophets, Brigham Young. (Journal of Discourses, Vol 1, pgs 108-109)

"If you want to know what I do with a thief that you may find stealing, I say kill him on the spot, and suffer him to commit another iniquity...if I caught a man stealing on my premises I should be very apt to "send him home", and that is what I wish every man to do, to put a stop to that abominable practice in the midst of this people.... I will prove my works whether I can mete out justice to such persons, or not. I would consider it just as much my duty to do that, as to baptize a man for the remission of sins"

4. Because I do not believe in crystal ball gazing to obtain truth!

Documentation reference: There are New York State court records of when their Joseph Smith was charged with being a "Glass looker" (1826), however, I'll accept His mother's testimony. She said:

"My son was a "peek stone" addict. The young "Prophet" would place a stone in a hat, put his face into the hat and then see into the Stone to determine by its deep mysteries where certain treasures lay.

5. Because I'm not going to be such a fool as Satan and think I can be God!

Documentation reference: "Joseph Smith preferred to believe the satanic lie of Gen3:5 "Ye shall be as Gods", Satan, indeed was more conservative than Smith, for he Qualified his promise with "as", Joseph, never one to be outdone, made Satan's Lie capable of literal fulfillment. In what religion, other than Satanism, can man Be flattered to the point of believing himself to be God. "The Bible and Mormonism" by Roger Anderson Mormon "Millennial Star, Vol.54:

"As man is, God once was, as God is, man May become". "If we should take a million worlds like this and number their particles, we Should find that there are more gods than there are particles of matter in those Worlds" (Journal of discourses Vol. 2 page 345)

6. Because ONE wife is enough for any man!

Documentation reference: "The Mormons who practice polygamy do so because They believe it was a divine mandate of Joseph Smith, an "Everlasting covenant Irreversible, sanctioned and fortified by Brigham Young and other leaders. "Mormons are told officially that the: "crowning gospel ordinance requisite for Godhood is celestial marriage".(Polygamy)

The latter day saints would like us to believe that polygamy is dead, but the closest Competitor of the Utah church, the reorganized church of LDS, which rejected Polygamy, states: "Repeatedly we are told that this is a dead issue- that polygamy has been renounced By the Mormon authorities and the matter need not be argued further. It is not a Dead issue, nor can it be so long as their book of doctrine and covenants goes into All parts of the world bearing an alleged revelation which sets forth polygamy (And with equal validity- concubinage) as the will of heaven and says that those Who reject these documents will be damned! This can not be called dead so long as our friends among the Mormon missionaries Everywhere defend the doctrine when pressed in argument, and often when not even Questioned about it. (Differences that Persist, Herald Publishing House, Ind Missouri 1959 pgs 19-21)

Note: When census workers discover them, they are told that the plural wives are "Boarders" and that the children don't give the names of their parents because they are merely shy.

7. Because I'm not about to go up to a 6 foot black man and tell him that I'm better than him -and that God said so!

"From the days of the prophet Joseph even until now, it has been the Doctrine of the church, never questioned by any of the church leaders, that the Negroes Are not entitled to the full blessings of the gospel"

Quoted from the First Presidency of the Mormon Church, July 17,1947, see Mormonism and The Negro, by John J Stewart and William E. Berrett, pp 46-47

8. Because I don't like people that steal books!

Documentation: Authenticated by affidavits, newspapers, and other documents we read that Solomon Spaulding wrote a novel attempting to account for the American Indian by Israelis origin And this piece of fiction was later re-written by Spaulding into a story called "Manuscript Found". (The first outline for it is at Oberlin College), The story was left with a publisher from whom it was stolen under circumstances which lead many to suspect Joseph's close friend Sidney Rigdon. It is claimed that the historical portions of "Manuscript Found" and The book of Mormon are the same, and that the religious teachings are interjected in the King James phraseology of the Bible.

9. Because I would hate to die in the desert, dragging a broken-down wooden cart with all my belongings in it.

Documentation: Referring to the above method of travel from Iowa to Salt Lake valley, Their prophet Brigham Young directed: "If it is once tried, you will find that it will become the favourite mode of crossing the plains, they will have nothing to do but come along" ("Millennial Star XVII, Dec.22,1885)

Hundreds of blind followers, mostly emigrants, perished early in the journey from disease caused from crowding people into small tents, others died from hunger, And fatigue, some were devoured by wolves and at last from winters cold were many frozen to death. Note: Not only did Brigham Young devise the plan, but he designed these "hand carts" Which kept falling apart and causing delays, and in the end after all the resulting deaths Denied any responsibility!

10. Because I love the Lord Jesus Christ!

HE IS GOD, there are not many Gods, HE WAS BORN OF A VIRGIN, not from a sexual relationship between Adam and Mary, He was not married to a couple or few Mary's, and

Further, I am not Working my way to "some" heaven, Jesus paid for my eternal life and gave it to me as A free gift by faith in Him and promised me a home in glory as well!

Mormonism: Adam and Mary the parents of God, see Journal of Discourses Vol1, pgs 50-51. Jesus was married to Mary, Martha and the other Mary, (JN/Dis Vol 1 345-346) "There is not a man or woman who violates the Covenants made with their God, that will not be required to pay that debt- the Blood of Christ will never wipe that out, your own blood must atone for it" JD vol 3, pg 2470

(What!- My blood is better than Christ's!-according to Mormonism it is)

"There are certain sins so grievous that man may commit that they will place the Transgressors beyond the power of the atonement of Christ- they must have their Blood shed" (Like stealing evidently according to Brigham Young)

Joseph Smith (paraphrased) from his "Doctrine of Salvation"

"Christianity: For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

"And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32

Note: Mormon quotations are marked: LDS -
Bible quotations are marked: THE TRUTH:

LDS - "Now WE ARE GENEROUS WITH THE NEGRO. WE ARE WILLING that the Negro have the highest kind of education. I WOULD BE WILLING to LET every Negro DRIVE A CADILLAC IF THEY COULD AFFORD IT. I WOULD BE WILLING that they have all the advantages they can get out of life in the world. BUT LET THEM ENJOY THESE THINGS AMONG THEMSELVES." LDS "Apostle" Mark E. Petersen, "Race Problems - As They Affect The Church," Address delivered at Brigham Young University, August 27, 1954, as quoted in Jerald and Sandra Tanner's book entitled, "The Changing World of Mormonism," p. 307, emphasis added.

LDS - "Those who were LESS VALIANT IN PRE-EXISTENCE and who thereby had certain spiritual restrictions imposed upon them during mortality are known to us as the NEGROES." LDS "Apostle" Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 527, 1966 edition, emphasis added.

LDS - "THE NEGROES ARE NOT EQUAL WITH OTHER RACES where the receipt of certain spiritual blessings are concerned, ...but this inequality is not of man's origin. IT IS THE LORD'S DOING, is based on his eternal laws of justice, and grows out of the LACK OF SPIRITUAL VALIANCE OF THOSE CONCERNED IN THEIR FIRST ESTATE [the Mormon pre-existence]." LDS "Apostle" Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 527 - 528, 1966 edition, emphasis added.

LDS - "...[T]hrough their INDIFFERENCE or LACK OF INTEGRITY TO RIGHTEOUSNESS, [blacks] rendered themselves UNWORTHY of the Priesthood and its powers...." LDS "Historian" B. H. Roberts, The Contributor, vol. 6, pp. 296-297, as quoted in Jerald and Sandra Tanner's book entitled "The Changing World of Mormonism," p. 293, emphasis added.

LDS - "Is there reason then why the type of birth we receive in this life is not A REFLECTION OF OUR WORTHINESS or LACK OF IT IN THE PRE-EXISTENT LIFE? ...[C]an we account in any other way for the birth of some of the children of God in DARKEST AFRICA, or in FLOOD-RIDDEN CHINA, or among the STARVING HORDES OF INDIA, while some of the rest of us are born here in the United States? We cannot escape the conclusion that BECAUSE OF PERFORMANCE IN OUR PRE-EXISTENCE some of us are born as CHINESE, some as JAPANESE, some as Latter-day Saints. ...A CHINESE, BORN IN CHINA WITH A DARK SKIN, and with all the HANDICAPS OF THAT RACE seems to have little opportunity. But think of the mercy of God to Chinese people who are willing to accept the gospel. IN SPITE OF WHATEVER THEY MIGHT HAVE DONE IN THE PRE-EXISTENCE TO JUSTIFY BEING BORN OVER THERE AS CHINAMEN, if they now, in this life accept the gospel and live it the rest of their lives they can have the Priesthood, go to the temple and receive endowments and sealings, and that means they can have exaltation. Isn't the mercy of God marvelous? Think of the Negro, cursed as to the priesthood.... THIS NEGRO, WHO, IN THE PRE-EXISTENCE LIVED THE TYPE OF LIFE WHICH JUSTIFIED THE LORD IN SENDING HIM TO EARTH IN THE LINEAGE OF CAIN WITH A BLACK SKIN, AND POSSIBLY BEING BORN IN DARKEST AFRICA.... IN SPITE OF ALL HE DID IN THE PRE-EXISTENT LIFE, the Lord is willing, if the Negro accepts the gospel with real, sincere faith, and is really converted, to give him the blessings of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. IF THAT NEGRO IS FAITHFUL ALL HIS DAYS, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. HE WILL GO THERE AS A SERVANT, but he will get celestial glory." LDS "Apostle" Mark E. Petersen, "Race Problems - As They Affect the Church," Address delivered at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, August 27, 1954, as quoted in Jerald and Sandra Tanner's book entitled "The Changing World of Mormonism," p. 294. Note: Allegedly, even "if that Negro is faithful all his days," he will never achieve equality with his "white and delightsome" Mormon brethren. Instead he allegedly will go to the celestial kingdom "AS A SERVANT!"

LDS - "You see some classes of the human family that are BLACK, UNCOUTH, UNCOMELY, DISAGREEABLE and LOW in their habits, WILD, and seemingly DEPRIVED OF NEARLY ALL THE BLESSINGS OF THE INTELLIGENCE that is generally bestowed upon mankind. The first man that committed the odious crime of killing one of his brethren will be cursed the longest of any one of the children of Adam. Cain slew his brother. Cain might have been KILLED, and THAT WOULD HAVE PUT A TERMINATION TO THAT LINE OF HUMAN BEINGS. This was not to be, and the Lord put A MARK upon him, which is THE FLAT NOSE AND BLACK SKIN. Trace mankind down to after the flood, and then another curse is pronounced upon the same race -- that they should be the "servants of servants;" and they will be, until that curse is removed; and the Abolitionists cannot help it, nor in the least alter that decree." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, p. 290, 1859, emphasis added.

LDS - "Though he was a rebel and an ASSOCIATE OF LUCIFER IN PRE-EXISTENCE, ...Cain managed to attain the privilege of mortal birth.... [H]e came out in open rebellion, fought God, worshiped Lucifer, and slew Abel.... AS A RESULT OF HIS REBELLION, CAIN WAS CURSED WITH A DARK SKIN; HE BECAME THE FATHER OF THE NEGROES, and THOSE SPIRITS WHO ARE NOT WORTHY to receive the priesthood are born through his lineage." LDS "Apostle" Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pp. 108-109, 1966 edition, emphasis added.

LDS - "...[F]rom Ham sprang the race which preserved the curse in the land." LDS Pearl of Great Price, Abraham 1:24.

LDS - "Noah's son Ham married Egyptus, a descendant of Cain, thus preserving the Negro lineage through the flood." LDS "Apostle" Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 527, 1966 edition, emphasis added.

LDS - "And after the flood we are told that the curse that had been pronounced upon Cain was continued through Ham's wife, as he had married a wife of that seed. And why did it pass through the flood? Because it was necessary that THE DEVIL SHOULD HAVE A REPRESENTATION UPON THE EARTH as well as God...." LDS "Prophet" John Taylor, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 22, p. 304, 1881, emphasis added.
Note: Taylor claimed that blacks were Satan's representatives on Earth.

LDS - "Ham will continue to be servant of servants, as the Lord decreed, until the curse is removed. Will the present struggle [the U.S. civil war] free the slave? No.... Can you destroy the decrees of the Almighty? You cannot." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 10, p. 250, 1863.

LDS - "For behold, the Lord shall curse the land with much heat, and the barrenness thereof shall go forth forever; and there was a BLACKNESS came upon all the children of Canaan, that they were DESPISED AMONG ALL PEOPLE." LDS Pearl of Great Price, Moses 7:8, emphasis added.

LDS - "And it came to pass that Enoch continued to call upon all people, SAVE IT WERE THE PEOPLE OF CANAAN, to repent." LDS Pearl of Great Price, Moses 7:12, emphasis added. Note: Mormonism long considered blacks unworthy of its missionary efforts, essentially unworthy of the Gospel message.

LDS - "The gospel message of salvation is NOT CARRIED AFFIRMATIVELY TO THEM [blacks]...." LDS "Apostle" Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 527, 1966 edition, emphasis added.

THE TRUTH: "He [Jesus] said to them, 'Go into all the world and PREACH THE GOOD NEWS TO ALL CREATION.'" Mark 16:15, emphasis added.

THE TRUTH: [Jesus said]: "Therefore go and make disciples of ALL NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." Matthew 28:19, emphasis added.

LDS - "Negroes IN THIS LIFE are denied the priesthood; UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES can they hold this delegation of authority from the Almighty." LDS "Apostle" Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 527, 1966 edition, emphasis added. (See also LDS Pearl of Great Price, Abraham 1:20-27)

LDS - "Not only was Cain called upon to suffer, but because of his wickedness he became THE FATHER OF AN INFERIOR RACE. A curse was placed upon him and that curse has been continued through his lineage and must do so WHILE TIME ENDURES. Millions of souls have come into this world cursed with a BLACK SKIN and have been DENIED THE PRIVILEGE OF PRIESTHOOD and the fulness of the blessings of the Gospel. These are the descendants of Cain. Moreover, they have been made to FEEL THEIR INFERIORITY and have been SEPARATED from the rest of mankind from the beginning. Enoch saw the people of Canaan, descendants of Cain, and he says, 'and there was a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan, that they were DESPISED AMONG ALL PEOPLE.'" LDS "Prophet" Joseph Fielding Smith, The Way to Perfection, pp. 101-102, 1931, emphasis added.

LDS - "I tell you, this people that are commonly called negroes are the children of old Cain. I know they are, I know that THEY CANNOT BEAR RULE IN THE PRIESTHOOD, for the curse on them was to REMAIN upon them, until the resedue (sic) of the posterity of Michal (sic) and his wife receive the blessings...and hold the keys of the priesthood.... In the kingdom of God ON THE EARTH THE AFFRICANS (sic) CANNOT HOLD ONE PARTICAL (sic) OF POWER IN GOVERNMENT [within the LDS church]." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Brigham Young Addresses, Ms d 1234, Box 48, folder 3, Feb. 5, 1852, as quoted in Bob Witte's book entitled "Where Does It Say That?," p. 2-9, emphasis added.

LDS - "How long is that race to endure the dreadful curse that is upon them? That curse will REMAIN UPON THEM, and THEY NEVER CAN HOLD THE PRIESTHOOD or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the Priesthood and the keys thereof. Until the last ones of the residue of Adam's children are brought up to that favourable position, THE CHILDREN OF CAIN CANNOT RECEIVE THE FIRST ORDINANCES OF THE PRIESTHOOD. They were the first that were cursed, and they will be the last from whom the curse will be removed. When the residue of the family of Adam come up and receive their blessings, then the curse will be removed from the seed of Cain, and they will receive blessings in like proportion." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, pp. 290-291, 1859, emphasis added.

LDS - "When all the other children of Adam have had the privilege of receiving the Priesthood, and of coming into the kingdom of God, and of being redeemed from the four quarters of the earth, and HAVE RECEIVED THEIR RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD, then it will be time enough to remove the curse from Cain and his posterity." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, p. 143, 1854, emphasis added. Note: Young taught that blacks would not receive the Mormon priesthood until AFTER the resurrection.

LDS - "They [blacks] will GO DOWN TO DEATH. And when all the rest of the children have received their blessings in the Holy Priesthood, then that curse will be removed from the seed of Cain, and they will then come up and possess the priesthood, and receive all the blessings which WE now are entitled to." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 11, p.272, 1866, emphasis added.

LDS - "In the spirit of SYMPATHY, MERCY and faith, we will also hope that blessings may eventually be given to our negro brethren, for they are our brethren - children of God - NOTWITHSTANDING THEIR BLACK COVERING EMBLEMATICAL OF ETERNAL DARKNESS." LDS "Prophet" Joseph Fielding Smith, The Way to Perfection, p. 102, 1931, emphasis added. Note: Even as LDS "Prophet" Joseph Fielding Smith professed "sympathy" and "mercy" toward blacks, he continued to preach condemnation and contempt for them.

THE TRUTH: "Do not let anyone who delights in FALSE HUMILITY and the worship of angels DISQUALIFY YOU FOR THE PRIZE. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind PUFFS HIM UP WITH IDLE NOTIONS. He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the WHOLE BODY, ...grows as God causes it to grow." Colossians 2:18-19, emphasis added.

Mormonism contradicts Itself:

LDS - "...[W]E HAVE PLEADED LONG AND EARNESTLY IN BEHALF OF THESE, OUR FAITHFUL [black] BRETHREN.... He has heard our prayers, and by revelation has confirmed that the long-promised day has come.... Accordingly, all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color." LDS "Prophet" Spencer Kimball, Deseret News, June 9, 1978, p. 1A, as quoted in Jerald and Sandra Tanner's book entitled "The Changing World of Mormonism," p. 309, emphasis added. Note: Despite Mormonism's 148 years of teaching white superiority as the "word of God," LDS "Prophet" Spencer Kimball feigned compassion and support for blacks by allegedly intervening with God on behalf of "these, our faithful brethren." Astonishingly, Kimball seemed to actually take credit for convincing God to change His mind on the issue. Mormonism finally allowed blacks to enter the Mormon priesthood in 1978, amid allegations of racial discrimination. Kimball claimed to receive a "revelation" from God granting such access but, strangely, the LDS church has not made the contents of that "revelation" available to the public. It is also interesting to note that Mormonism has not rejected its underlying doctrines of white supremacy, which are still present in Mormon "scripture" (see LDS Pearl of Great Price, Moses 5:16-41; 7:8, 12, 22; Abraham 1:20-27 and Book of Mormon, Alma 3:6-9, 14; 2 Nephi 5:21; 30:6-7).

Question: Blacks and other non-Caucasians still possess "dark skins" which Mormonism alleges to be an indication of inferiority, a mark of unworthiness in the pre-existence. Does this mean that the Mormon priesthood is now available to the "unworthy and inferior," as well as to those self-proclaimed "worthy and superior" individuals whom God has allegedly rewarded with "white and delightsome" skins?

LDS - "...[T]he land was left to the possession of the RED MEN [native Americans], WHO WERE WITHOUT INTELLIGENCE.... [T]he land was again peopled, in a measure, by a RUDE, WILD, REVENGEFUL, WARLIKE AND BARBAROUS RACE. - SUCH ARE OUR INDIANS." LDS "Historian" Oliver Cowdery, LDS Messenger and Advocate, Vol. 1, July, 1835, p, 158, emphasis added.

LDS - "And the skins of the Lamanites [native Americans] were DARK, ...which was A CURSE UPON THEM.... And this was done that their seed might be distinguished from the seed of their brethren, that thereby the Lord God might PRESERVE HIS PEOPLE, that they might NOT MIX and believe in incorrect traditions WHICH WOULD PROVE THEIR DESTRUCTION." Book of Mormon, Alma 3:6-8, emphasis added.

LDS - "Thus the WORD OF GOD is fulfilled...: Behold, the Lamanites [native Americans] have I CURSED, and I will set a mark on them that they and their seed may be SEPARATED FROM THEE AND THY SEED, FROM THIS TIME HENCEFORTH and FOREVER, except they repent of their wickedness and turn to me that I may have mercy upon them." Book of Mormon, Alma 3:14, emphasis added.

LDS - "Here are the Lamanites [native Americans].... Their wickedness was not so great as those [Jews] who slew the Son of God. ...Is their curse as great as that of those in Palestine? No, it is light, in comparison. They began to thirst for each other's blood, and massacred each other, from generation to generation, until they SUNK INTO WICKEDNESS, and EVIL principles the most DEGRADING, and have become LOATHSOME and VILE. Still THE CURSE WILL BE REMOVED from them before it will be removed from the children of Judah; and THEY WILL BECOME A "WHITE AND DELIGHTSOME PEOPLE." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, p. 143, 1854, emphasis added.

LDS - "And the Gospel of Jesus Christ shall be declared among them; wherefore, ...their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save THEY SHALL BE A WHITE AND A DELIGHTSOME PEOPLE. " Book of Mormon (1830 edition), 2 Nephi, Chapter XII, p. 117, emphasis added. Note: This passage from the original Book of Mormon has subsequently been altered by Mormonism's leaders. The Book of Mormon, 2 Nephi 30:6, now reads: "they shall be a PURE and a delightsome people." Substituting "pure" for "white" seems to indicate that Mormonism considers those two words to be interchangeable. The logical assumption, then, is that Mormonism also considers "NON-white" to be the equivalent of "impure." Even in this attempt to obscure its racist "scripture," Mormonism continues to divulge its underlying doctrine of white supremacy.

LDS - "I would rather undertake to convert five thousand Lamanites [native Americans], than to convert one of those poor MISERABLE CREATURES [Jews] WHOSE FATHERS KILLED THE SAVIOR.... Yes, I would rather undertake to CONVERT THE DEVIL HIMSELF, if it were possible. ...I would say, LEAVE THEM, AND COME HOME, THE LORD DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO STAY THERE, FOR THEY MUST SUFFER AND BE DAMNED. ...[L]EAVE THEM TO LIVE AND DIE IN THEIR SINS and IGNORANCE. ...[T]HEY TAKE PLEASURE IN THEIR WICKEDNESS...." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, p. 143, 1854, emphasis added.

Note: Brigham Young held Jews responsible for the death of Christ. He taught that Jews were likewise cursed with a dark skin and were essentially beyond the reach of the Gospel message. Perhaps it didn't occur to Young that Christ Himself had pleaded for the forgiveness of the Jews who were responsible for His death.

THE TRUTH: "When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals - one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, 'Father, FORGIVE THEM, for they do not know what they are doing....'" Luke 23:34, emphasis added.

"...[T]he NEGRO SEEKS ABSORPTION WITH THE WHITE RACE. He will not be satisfied until he achieves it BY INTERMARRIAGE. THAT IS HIS OBJECTIVE and we must face it. We must not ...feel so sorry for negroes that we will open our arms and embrace them with everything we have." LDS "Apostle" Mark E. Petersen, "Race Problems - As They Affect The Church," Address delivered at Brigham Young University, August 27, 1954, as quoted in Jerald and Sandra Tanner's book entitled, "The Changing World of Mormonism," pp. 306-307, emphasis added.

LDS - "If we sit with negroes at our tables, if we entertain them as our guests and social equals, if we disregard the color line in all other relations, is it possible to maintain it fixedly in the sexual relation, in the marriage of our sons and daughters, in the PROPAGATION OF OUR SPECIES? Unquestionably, No! ...[O]nce the middle wall of social partition [is] broken down, the mingling of tides of life would begin instantly and proceed steadily. ...As a race, the Southern CAUCASIAN WOULD BE IRREVERSIBLY DOOMED. For no possible check could be given to this process once established. ...The moment the bar of ABSOLUTE SEPARATION is thrown down in the south, that moment the bloom of her spirit is BLIGHTED FOREVER, the promise of her destiny is annulled, the proud fabric of her future slips into dust and ashes. No other conceivable disaster that might befall the south could, for an instant, compare with such miscegenation within her borders. Flood and fire, fever and famine and the sword - even ignorance, indolence, and carpet-baggery - she may endure and conquer WHILE HER BLOOD REMAINS PURE; but once TAINT THE WELL-SPRING OF HER LIFE, AND ALL IS LOST - EVEN HONOR ITSELF. " William Benjamin Smith, The Color Line, as quoted in LDS "Historian" B.H. Roberts' book entitled "First Year Book in the Seventy's Course in Theology," 1931, pp. 231 - 233, emphasis added.

LDS - "But some may deny that the MONGRELIZATION of the southern people would ...CORRUPT OR DEGRADE THE SOUTHERN STOCK OF HUMANITY. If so, then such a one has yet to learn the largest-writ (sic) lessons of history and the most impressive doctrines of biological science. That THE NEGRO IS MARKEDLY INFERIOR TO THE CAUCASIAN is proved both craniologically and by six thousand years of planet-wide experimentation...." William Benjamin Smith, The Color Line, as quoted in LDS "Historian" B.H. Roberts' book entitled "First Year Book in the Seventy's Course in Theology," 1931, p. 232, emphasis added.

LDS - "But let me tell you further. Let my seed mingle with the seed of Cain, that brings the curse upon me, and upon my generations.... On that very day, and hour we should do so, the priesthood is taken from this church and kingdom [,] and God leaves us to our fate." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Brigham Young Addresses, Ms d 1234, Box 48, folder 3, Feb. 5, 1852, as quoted in Bob Witte's book entitled "Where Does It Say That?", p. 2-9.

LDS - "Shall I tell you the LAW OF GOD in regard to the AFRICAN race? If the WHITE MAN who belongs to the CHOSEN SEED mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is DEATH ON THE SPOT. This will ALWAYS be so." LDS "Prophet" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 10, p.110, 1863, emphasis added.

Mormonism contradicts itself:

LDS - "...[W]orthy males of all races can now receive the Melchizedek Priesthood.... It means that members of all races may now be married in the temple, although INTERRACIAL MARRIAGES ARE DISCOURAGED by the Brethren...." LDS "Apostle" Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pp. 526-528, 1979 printing of 1966 edition.

Note: Mormonism grudgingly allowed blacks to enter its priesthood in 1978. But notice the continuing racial prejudice, even as the group attempts to declare that blacks are now acceptable!

LDS - "...[I]n a broad sense, CASTE SYSTEMS have their root and origin in the gospel itself, and when they operate according to the DIVINE DECREE, the resultant RESTRICTIONS AND SEGREGATION ARE RIGHT AND PROPER and have the APPROVAL OF THE LORD. To illustrate: Cain, Ham, and the whole negro race have been cursed with a black skin, the mark of Cain, so they can be identified as A CASTE APART, a people with whom the other descendants of Adam should NOT INTERMARRY." LDS "Apostle" Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pp. 108-109, 1966 edition, emphasis added.
Note: Allegedly, Mormonism's doctrines of racial discrimination are "right and proper," actually approved by God!

LDS - "...When the Lord chose the nations to which the spirits were to come, determining that some would be JAPANESE and some would be CHINESE and some NEGROES and some Americans, HE ENGAGED IN AN ACT OF SEGREGATION. ...When He cursed the descendants of Cain as to the Priesthood, HE ENGAGED IN SEGREGATION.... Who placed the Negroes originally in darkest Africa? Was it some man, or was it God? And when He placed them there, HE SEGREGATED THEM.... THE LORD SEGREGATED THE PEOPLE BOTH AS TO BLOOD AND PLACE OF RESIDENCE. At least in the cases of the Lamanites [Native Americans] and the Negroes we have the definite WORD OF THE LORD HIMSELF that He placed a dark skin upon them AS A CURSE - AS A PUNISHMENT AND AS A SIGN TO ALL OTHERS. He FORBADE INTERMARRIAGE with them...." LDS "Apostle" Mark E. Petersen, "Race Problems - As They Affect The Church," Address delivered at Brigham Young University, August 27, 1954, as quoted in Jerald and Sandra Tanner's book entitled, "The Changing World of Mormonism," pp. 306-307, emphasis added.

LDS - "Here, then, is laid bare the nerve of the whole matter: Is the south [southern U.S.] justified in this ABSOLUTE DENIAL OF SOCIAL EQUALITY TO THE NEGRO, no matter what his virtues or abilities or accomplishments? WE AFFIRM, then, that THE SOUTH IS ENTIRELY RIGHT in thus keeping open at all times, at all hazards, and at all sacrifices AN IMPASSIBLE SOCIAL CHASM BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE. This she must do IN BEHALF OF HER BLOOD, her essence, of THE STOCK OF HER CAUCASIAN RACE." William Benjamin Smith, The Color Line, as quoted in LDS "Historian" B.H. Roberts' book entitled "First Year Book in the Seventy's Course in Theology," 1931, p. 231, emphasis added

THE TRUTH: "Yet to ALL who received Him, to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to BECOME CHILDREN OF GOD -- children born NOT OF NATURAL DESCENT, nor of human decision or a husband's will, BUT BORN OF GOD." John 1:12, emphasis added.

THE TRUTH: "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to ALL men." Titus 2:11, emphasis added.

THE TRUTH: "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to ALL who believe. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE, for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:22-24, emphasis added.

THE TRUTH: "Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and THERE IS NO FAVORITISM." Colossians 3:25, emphasis added.

THE TRUTH: "Then Peter began to speak: 'I now realize how true it is that GOD DOES NOT SHOW FAVORITISM but ACCEPTS MEN FROM EVERY NATION who FEAR HIM and DO WHAT IS RIGHT.'" Acts 10:34, emphasis added.
Note: Clearly God does NOT discriminate between His children, nor should God's children discriminate among themselves.

THE TRUTH: "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of ONE BODY you were called to peace." Colossians 3:15, emphasis added.

THE TRUTH: "Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but CHRIST IS ALL, AND IS IN ALL." Colossians 3:11, emphasis added. Note: The NIV footnote states "Christ transcends all barriers, and UNIFIES PEOPLE FROM ALL CULTURES, RACES AND NATIONS. Such distinctions are no longer significant. CHRIST ALONE MATTERS."

Anti-Mormon protesters at the
October 2003 LDS General Conference

Do you know the Mormonism is a cult?  Ever try telling it to their face?  Every April and October in Salt Lake City there is a Mormon conference where over 100,000 Mormons come to hear the prophet and apostles speak to them.   Over the years we have battled with the city to use the sidewalk around their Temple and at times we were threatened with arrest.   Well I guess it’s ok for Mormons to come to your door, just don’t come to theirs.

Every year banners surround the sacred temple grounds with street preachers at intersections and entrances making no small stir.  Preaching and debating for the faith goes on for hours each day as we loudly proclaim that the Jesus in the Bible is not the same one that is worshipped by the church of the Latter Day Saints. They worship a Jesus that is alien to the true Jesus of the Bible.

If anyone thinks that Mormons are Christians, then this may be helpful in clarifying your judgment.   Every Christian book store has a “cult” section and there you will find many books, tapes and DVD’s on this church.

We have studied the subject for many hours and have felt the Lord leading us to go there on our own dime where we use the public sidewalk to declare to all Mormons that ther are involved in and giving there money to a CULT! We do this without charging anyone any money for the truth.

Because of the loud and very public preaching, we get into smaller conversations and those small conversations are life changing. The preaching of the TRUE GOSPEL changes lives! God honors the public proclamation of  His Word. His Word is tearing down the strongholds of Mormon error and heresy!  The issues we preach against regarding Mormon errors are endless. Did you know that Mormonism teaches that its adherents shall ultimately becoming gods themselves and rule over other earth like planets in heaven? They also teach the LIE that God himself was once a sinful man and now rules our world. The Mormon god is one of many gods. This is just the tip of the iceberg to be found in the heretical document called the Book of Mormon.  The Book of Mormon also teaches that Jesus and satan are brothers, blacks are considered as having the mark of Cain, Mormonism teaches that blacks are a cursed brood and that they can not be saved. Fundamentalist Mormons also believe in and still practice polygamy.

Here is some information that will be useful expose the lies of the Mormon Church to keep in your sheath and use if needed.

The Bible vs. The Book of Mormon

This is just over an hour presentation, documentary style.

Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon as an historical account of the Americas prior to the white settlers.

Joseph Smith wrote of cities, peoples, their agriculture and warfare of which no physical evidence has been found to date.

Joseph Smith said that the Bible had been corrupted and that the Book of Mormon was more accurate and the gospel for our time.

This video compares the archeological, geographical, linguistic, biological, and manuscript evidence and accuracy of the Bible

to the lack thereof of any evidence of the Book of Mormon.  Much more is presented in the video.  Very worth the time to watch.

DNA vs. The Book of Mormon

Joseph Smith wrote in the Book of Mormon that an Israelite family migrated to America around 600 BC

(traveling 8,500 miles of ocean travel)

and that their descendants were the native American Indians.

Since the advancement of DNA, it has been found that native American Indians are descended from Asians with no trace of Israelites.

Asians needed to travel only 50 miles across the Bering Strait (sea) into Alaska to reach the Americas.

The music minister of a local church here took a trip to that part of Alaska approx. 2 years ago.

He showed us pictures from one of the outer islands of Alaska, from where you can see Russian land across the water.

Scientists interviewed for this video were Mormons for many years until their research and other branches of science disproved the Book of Mormon.

These videos should help Christians understand that the Mormon Jesus and gospel is very different than the Jesus of the Bible.

If anyone wants a book that can be used to get information on the LDS doctrine

history and facts I suggest a book called

“When Salt Lake City Calls”

by Rocky Hulse it is great.

You can get one from amazon HERE

1. Did Joseph Smith have more than one wife while he was alive?

Absolutely. Just check Joseph Smith's official church marriage record at

Faithful LDS member and historian Todd Compton has found solid documentation for Smith marriages to 33 women while he was alive. True, many more were sealed to him after his death, but Smith had at least 33 wives while he was alive.

Compton Writes:
"In the group of Smith's well-documented wives, eleven (33 percent) were 14 to 20 years old when they married him. Nine wives (27 percent) were twenty-one to thirty years old. Eight wives (24 percent) were in Smith's own peer group, ages thirty-one to forty. In the group aged forty-one to fifty, there is a substantial drop off: two wives, or 6 percent, and three (9 percent) in the group aged fifty-one to sixty."

"The teenage representation is the largest, though the twenty-year and thirty-year groups are comparable, which contradicts the Mormon folk-wisdom that sees the beginnings of polygamy was an attempt to care for older, unattached women. These data suggest that sexual attraction was an important part of the motivation for Smith's polygamy. In fact, the command to multiply and replenish the earth was part of the polygamy theology, so non-sexual marriage was generally not in the polygamous program, as Smith taught it."

2. Why did Joseph Smith have 33 wives?

Jacob 2: 24-30
24 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none... For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.

(The Lord is saying here that the only reason for more than one wife is to "raise up seed" unto Him.)

D&C 132:
Verse 37: Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness...

Verse 41: And as ye have asked concerning adultery...

(Why is adultery an issue? Simply being married or "sealed" to more than one woman in an otherwise chaste arrangement might be bigamy or polygamy, but it's not adultery. Adultery is a sexual act.)

Verses 62-63: And if he [Joseph Smith] have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.... for they are given unto him to multiply and replenish the earth, according to my commandment, and to fulfil the promise which was given by my Father before the foundation of the world, and for their exaltation in the eternal worlds, that they may bear the souls of men; for herein is the work of my Father continued, that he may be glorified.

In fact, Joseph Smith's original 1831 polygamy revelation, given to a group of married men while they were visiting a Native-American tribe, also explains procreation as the purpose of polygamy:

"For it is my will, that in time, ye should take unto you wives of the Lamanites and Nephites, that their posterity may become white, delightsome and Just, for even now their females are more virtuous than the gentiles."
- Prophet Joseph Smith, The Joseph Smith Revelations Text and Commentary, p. 374-376,

Brigham Young taught that "This is the reason why the doctrine of plurality of wives was revealed, that the noble spirits which are waiting for tabernacles might be brought forth." (Discourses of Brigham Young, p. 197.)

3. But did Joseph Smith obey the commandment and have sex with his wives?

Compton writes:
"Because of claims by Reorganized Latter-day Saints that Joseph was not really married polygamously in the full (i.e., sexual) sense of the term, Utah Mormons (including Joseph's wives) affirmed repeatedly that Joseph had physical sexual relations with his plural wives-despite the Victorian conventions in nineteenth-century American religion which otherwise would have prevented mention of sexual relations in marriage."

- Faithful Mormon Melissa Lott (Smith Willes) testified that she had been Joseph's wife "in very deed." (Affidavit of Melissa Willes, 3 Aug. 1893, Temple Lot case, 98, 105; Foster, Religion and Sexuality, 156.)

- In a court affidavit, faithful Mormon Joseph Noble wrote that Joseph told him he had spent the night with Louisa Beaman. (Temple Lot Case, 427)

- Emily D. Partridge (Smith Young) said she "roomed" with Joseph the night following her marriage to him and said that she had "carnal intercourse" with him. (Temple Lot case (complete transcript), 364, 367, 384; see Foster, Religion and Sexuality, 15.)

In total, 13 faithful latter-day saint women who were married to Joseph Smith swore court affidavits that they had sexual relations with him.

- Joseph Smith's personal secretary records that on May 22nd, 1843, Smith's first wife Emma found Joseph and Eliza Partridge secluded in an upstairs bedroom at the Smith home. Emma was devastated.
William Clayton's journal entry for 23 May (see Smith, 105-106)

- Smith's secretary William Clayton also recorded a visit to young Almera Johnson on May 16, 1843: "Prest. Joseph and I went to B[enjamin] F. Johnsons to sleep." Johnson himself later noted that on this visit Smith stayed with Almera "as man and wife" and "occupied the same room and bed with my sister, that the previous month he had occupied with the daughter of the late Bishop Partridge as his wife." Almera Johnson also confirmed her secret marriage to Joseph Smith: "I lived with the prophet Joseph as his wife and he visited me at the home of my brother Benjamin F." (Zimmerman, I Knew the Prophets, 44. See also "The Origin of Plural Marriage, Joseph F. Smith, Jr., Deseret News Press, page 70-71.)

- Faithful Mormon and Stake President Angus Cannon told Joseph Smith's son: "Brother Heber C. Kimball, I am informed, asked [Eliza R. Snow] the question if she was not a virgin although married to Joseph Smith and afterwards to Brigham Young, when she replied in a private gathering, "I thought you knew Joseph Smith better than that."" (Stake President Angus M. Cannon, statement of interview with Joseph III, 23, LDS archives.)

4. Did Joseph Smith father any children from his polygamous wives?

- Stake President Angus Cannon also testified: "I will now refer you to one case where it was said by the girl's grandmother that your father [Joseph Smith] has a daughter born of a plural wife. The girl's grandmother was Mother Sessions . . . She was the grand-daughter of Mother Sessions. That girl, I believe, is living today, in Bountiful, north of this city. I heard prest. Young, a short time before his death, refer to the report . . . The woman is now said to have a family of children, and I think she is still living." (Stake President Angus M. Cannon, statement of interview with Joseph III, 25-26, LDS archives.)

- Faithful Mormon and wife of Joseph Smith, Sylvia Sessions (Lyon), on her deathbed told her daughter, Josephine, that she (Josephine) was the daughter of Joseph Smith. Josephine testified: "She (Sylvia) then told me that I was the daughter of the Prophet Joseph Smith, she having been sealed to the Prophet at the time that her husband Mr. Lyon was out of fellowship with the Church." (Affidavit to Church Historian Andrew Jenson, 24 Feb. 1915)

- In her testimony given at a Brigham Young University devotional, Faithful Mormon Mary Elizabeth Rollins Lightner stated that she knew of children born to Smith's plural wives: "I know he [Joseph Smith] had six wives and I have known some of them from childhood up. I know he had three children. They told me. I think two are living today but they are not known as his children as they go by other names." (Read her full BYU testimony here:

- Faithful Mormon Prescindia D. Huntington, who was Normal Buell's wife and simultaneously a "plural wife" of the Prophet Joseph Smith, said that she did not know whether her husband Norman "or the Prophet was the father of her son, Oliver." And a glance at a photo of Oliver shows a strong resemblance to Emma Smith's boys.
(Mary Ettie V. Smith, "Fifteen Years Among the Mormons", page 34; also Fawn Brodie "No Man Knows My History" pages 301-302, 437-39)

- Researchers have tentatively identified eight children that Joseph Smith may have had by his plural wives. Besides Josephine Fisher (b. Feb. 8, 1844) and Oliver Buell, named as possible children of Joseph Smith by his plural wives are John R. Hancock (b. Apr. 19, 1841), George A. Lightner (b. Mar. 12, 1842), Orson W. Hyde (b. Nov. 9, 1843), Frank H. Hyde (b. Jan 23, 1845), Moroni Pratt (b. Dec. 7, 1844), and Zebulon Jacobs (b. Jan 2, 1842). ("Mormon Polygamy: A History" by LDS Historian Richard S. Van Wagoner, pages 44, 48- 49n3.)

There is another piece of evidence you might consider in examining Joseph Smith's sexual behavior. The following excerpt is from a love letter Joseph Smith wrote when he wanted to arrange a liaison with Newel K. Whitney's daughter Sarah Ann, whom Smith had secretly "married." It reveals Smith's cloak-and-dagger approach to his extramarital affairs:

"... the only thing to be careful of; is to find out when Emma comes then you cannot be safe, but when she is not here, there is the most perfect safty. ... Only be careful to escape observation, as much as possible, I know it is a heroick undertakeing; but so much the greater friendship, and the more Joy, when I see you I will tell you all my plans, I cannot write them on paper, burn this letter as soon as you read it; keep all locked up in your breasts, my life depends upon it. ... I close my letter, I think Emma wont come tonight if she dont, dont fail to come to night, I subscribe myself your most obedient, and affectionate, companion, and friend. Joseph Smith."
