BRASILIA (LifeSiteNews) – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has broken the silence he maintained since results from Sunday’s federal election indicated that convicted criminal Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had won a controversial race by less than two per cent of the vote.

Bolsonaro thanked voters but did not concede defeat. His Chief of Staff spoke briefly and acknowledged that the process of transition will begin.

Shortly after the statement the Supreme Court of Brazil released a statement saying that by authorising the transition of power, he had recognised the result of the election.
