(Illinois Right to Life) — As of Monday, July 31, Illinois was set to “invest” $23 million into promoting abortion.
Of the $23 million, $10 million will be directed toward creating an abortion hotline dedicated to connecting callers with abortion clinics to schedule appointments and procedures.
Briefly putting aside the moral issues with the hotline, it simply makes little sense from a financial standpoint. Virtually every abortion clinic already has a phone number listed online and, unfortunately, finding one in Illinois is anything but difficult.
This hotline plays into a larger narrative that abortion is an “emergency” of sorts and that access to abortion consequently needs to be urgent. It’s a common fear-mongering tactic that’s historically served the abortion industry far more often than it has served women.
Pro-abortion groups use the rare instance where the life of the mother is at risk to paint abortions as a medical necessity for a woman. They paint unwanted pregnancy as a “severe health risk” that must be treated immediately, hence the introduction of the hotline.
