Elon Musk rejects seat on Twitter board, fueling ‘hostile takeover’ speculation

(LifeSiteNews) – Technology entrepreneur and new Twitter shareholder Elon Musk will not be joining Twitter’s board of directors after all, keeping his options open to potentially take even bolder action to influence the social network’s treatment of political speech.

In late March, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO publicly mused about whether Twitter “fundamentally undermines democracy” with its biased and restrictive approach to disfavored political speech, and confirmed he was giving “serious thought” to building a competing social network of his own.

Days later, Musk purchased 73.5 million Twitter shares amounting to 9.2 percent of the company, making him its single largest shareholder. The $3.7 billion investment entitled him to a position on the company’s board, which he tentatively accepted. But on April 10, Twitter CEO Paral Agrawal announced that he has chosen not to join after all.

“Elon’s appointment to the board was to become officially effective 4/9, but Elon shared that same morning that he will no longer be joining the board,” Agrawal said. “I believe this is for the best. We have and will always value input from our shareholders whether they are on the Board
