FDA authorizes fourth, fifth mRNA shots for people over 50, immunocompromised

(LifeSiteNews) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) decided Tuesday to endorse the use of a second COVID-19 “booster” shot – a fourth jab – in the over-50 population and a record fifth dose for those with compromised immune systems, all while foregoing normal consultation procedures.

A statement from the FDA Tuesday announced the regulatory body’s authorization of both Pfizer and Moderna’s COVID mRNA shots to be injected a fourth time in those over 50 years of age and children over 12 years of age “with certain kinds of immunocompromise.”

In addition, the agency updated its emergency use authorization (EUA) protocol to include a “second booster” for those over 18 who have compromised immune systems on top of the “three-dose primary vaccination series,” amounting to a recommendation of five shots of the mRNA-developed inoculation for supposed protection against the novel coronavirus.

FDA Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research Dr. Peter Marks said that the changes come amid evidence suggesting “some waning of protection over time against serious outcomes from COVID-19 in older and immunocompromised individuals,” recognizing the dwindling efficacy
