Fear of death is slowly leading France into fear of life itself

March 24, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — France is facing a significant decrease in births, with 13 percent fewer births in January 2021 than in January 2020. The December trend was already worrisome, with 7 percent fewer births than in the last month of 2019. These are the first months in which babies conceived during a COVID-19 lockdown are being born.

France first went into full lockdown between March 19 and May 11 of last year. Since then, restrictions have come and gone, while masks are compulsory in all great cities and many small ones.

In January 2021, 53,900 babies were born in France, compared to 62,180 in January 2020. Part of this — but only part — can be explained by the fact that medically assisted procreation centers were closed during lockdowns: Currently, 3.5 percent of all births in France are the result of an assisted procreation procedure.

The last comparable decline occurred between August and November of 1975, with decreases in births compared to the same months in 1974 extending from 10 to 14 percent. The end of France’s baby-boom happened
