TENNESSEE (LifeSiteNews) – Tennessee’s former vaccine chief may have mailed herself a dog muzzle she claims she received as an intimidation tactic, according to evidence unearthed by a recent investigative probe.

Dr. Michelle Fiscus, formerly the state’s medical director of vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization, told CNN in July that she was fired over a disagreement concerning the vaccination of children without parental consent.

Tennessee is one of the few states that has a “mature minor doctrine” which allows physicians to assess whether “any child has the capacity to consent to vaccination themselves.” Under Tennessee state law, this applies to children as young as 14.

According to Axios, Fiscus sent a memo to vaccine providers explaining the decades-old mature minor doctrine.

“A recipient of that memo was upset that, according to Tennessee Supreme Court case law, minors ages 14-17 years are able to receive medical care in Tennessee without parental consent and posted the memo to social media,” she wrote. “Within days, legislators were contacting TDH (Tennessee Department of Health) asking questions about the memo with some interpreting it as an attempt to undermine parental authority.”
