COLUMBIA, South Carolina (LifeSiteNews) — The Republican governor of South Carolina affirmed his support for Biblical marriage on Wednesday during a gubernatorial debate.
Gov. Henry McMaster had been asked about the possibility of the Supreme Court of the United States allowing states to limit marriage to one man and one woman.
“I think that marriage ought to be between a man and a woman just like I think that boys ought to play in boys’ sports and girls ought to play in girls’ sports,” Gov. McMaster said.
His opponent, a leftist Democrat named Joe Cunningham, criticized McMaster for his support for Biblical marriage. Cunningham also accused the Republican governor of “leading South Carolina into the 1950s since the 1980s.”

Cunningham, a former congressman, is running on a campaign of legalizing abortion, marijuana, and gambling in the state.
The support for marriage from Gov. McMaster comes at a time when homosexual activists have influenced conservative groups and pushed them to either downplay the issue of marriage or take a stance in support of same-sex “marriage.”
