SPRINGFIELD, Illinois (LifeSiteNews) — The family of a teen YMCA swimmer in Illinois says she’s been barred from participating for protesting the decision to let boys who “identify” as female into girls’ lockers.
Fox News reports that in April, 16-year-old Abbigail Wheeler of Springfield entered the locker room for the local YMCA SPY swim team, where she encountered a pair of biological males. Objections lodged with head swim coach Alex Totura and later with local YMCA branch CEO Angie Sowle were both met with claims there was nothing that the organization could do, according to Wheeler’s father, with the YMCA also rejecting requests to at least notify the swim team about the policy.
“After the Parent Meeting, my daughter, her mom, and another swim mom approached Ms. Sowle and Coach Totura,” the father says. “My daughter said that she didn’t understand why this is happening and asked how long the YMCA knew about this.
