OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – A Canadian MP broke ranks with his NDP party’s hard COVID rule stance after ripping to shreds the Canadian federal government’s much-maligned ArriveCAN app as a “worthless” tool to “track” Canadians.
“I always fight for safety 1st, #ArrivCan is not that. It’s being used as a back door to permanently track all border crossing,” tweeted Windsor West, Ontario MP Brian Masse on July 24.
“MPs need to speak up now or it will destroy our tourism industry, frustrate & create longer line ups when the technology fails.”
According to the government, ArriveCAN is mandatory for use upon entering Canada for both citizens and foreigners, where they must submit their travel and contact information, as well as any COVID vaccination details, before crossing the border or boarding a flight.
ArriveCAN was launched in April 2020 by the Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and made mandatory in November 2020.
