MARIUPOL, Ukraine (LifeSiteNews) – A Russian airstrike in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol ravaged a maternity hospital and wounded at least 17, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted footage of the remains of the hospital, showing a mess of debris inside and outside the building, blown-out windows, and scorched cars. He called the attack an “atrocity,” and said people, including children, are “under the wreckage.”
According to Zelenskyy, the hospital was attacked in a “direct strike” in a city where reportedly more than 400,000 people are stranded after Russia broke a “mutually agreed-upon ceasefire,” according to Ukraine.
It is unclear whether the hospital itself was directly targeted. Illia Ponomarenko, a “defense reporter with the Kyiv Independent,” shared a photo of a large crater from the impact of the bomb, saying it struck in a “location between a hospital and birthing center.”
Ponomarenko also shared a video today showing a wrecked “local technical university building” of Mariupol, although it is unclear when the building was hit.
