ALBANY, New York (LifeSiteNews) — New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul scrapped the state’s COVID-19 restrictions for schools after more than two years of draconian mandates, acknowledging that school closures and remote learning were a “mistake.”
Gov. Hochul announced the change Monday, just weeks after the CDC radically loosened its COVID guidance earlier this month. The decision came after Hochul had ended statewide school mask mandates in most places (excluding schools) in February, becoming one of the last U.S. governors to do so, the Daily Wire pointed out.
“No more quarantining — no more ‘test to stay,’” Gov. Hochul said during an August 22 press conference in Manhattan, referencing a previous policy that required children to test negative to remain in class.
“The days of sending an entire classroom home because one person was symptomatic or tests positive, those days are over,” she said. Referencing the earlier decision to require children to attend school remotely, Hochul said, “Wow. What a mistake that was.”
