OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) – Canadians were outraged when, in a series of now deleted tweets, an Ottawa councilor announced he wants the government to seize the funds raised by the ‘Freedom Convoy’ to cover the costs of policing the peaceful protest.

Mathieu Fleury, an Ottawa City Councilor told the public that he had asked for court proceedings to be launched to seize the funds raised by the ‘Freedom Convoy’ trucker protest to cover the city’s costs. Fleury’s statements triggered a furious backlash, causing him to delete the tweets and lock his twitter account from public view.

“This morning, I have asked the city manager and city solicitor to immediately launch court proceedings targeting the millions of dollars in funds frozen by @GoFundMe so Ottawa taxpayers are not left holding the bag for these protests,” wrote Fleury, attaching the email he sent to the city.

“I want to voice my support for the notion of City initiating actions against the GoFundMe funds to cover City expenses from incidents from the protests,” read the email.
