June 8, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – New York Attorney General Letitia James’s long-running investigation into former President Donald Trump is now “criminal” in nature, the Democrat’s office recently announced, without identifying an alleged crime on Trump’s part.
“We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the organization is no longer purely civil in nature. We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA,” James spokesman Fabien Levy announced in a statement to CNN. “We have no additional comment.” The civil investigation has been ongoing since 2019.
CNN added that James’ office has ostensibly been investigating whether Trump’s business organization “improperly inflated assets on financial statements to secure loans and obtain economic and tax benefits,” with several of the former business mogul’s financial dealings under scrutiny as well.
But allies of the former president say that the investigation, which has been ongoing since 2019, is little more than a fishing expedition meant to harass Trump.
“I think it’s a political persecution, and I know that because she literally campaigned on it,”
