Pop star Ne-Yo speaks out against gender ideology but issues groveling apology the next day

(LifeSiteNews) — Singer and songwriter “Ne-Yo” is drawing sharp criticism from conservatives for rapidly backpedaling after initially speaking out with common sense against subjecting children to radical transgender ideology.

Shaffer Chimere Smith, known professionally as “Ne-Yo,” gave candid remarks during an August 5 interview with VLADTV about parents who “affirm” the alleged transgender identities of their young children. 

“Parents have almost forgotten what the role of a parent is,” the 43-year-old father of five said in the interview. “If your little boy comes to you and said, ‘Daddy I want to be a girl,’ and you just let him rock with that … he’s five.”

“If you let this five-year-old boy decide to eat candy all day, he’s gonna do that. When did it become a good idea to let a five-year-old, let a six-year-old, let a 12-year-old, make a life-changing decision for [themselves]?” he said. “When did that happen? I don’t understand that.”

Ne-Yo also spoke about legislation recently proposed in California that could result in the removal of children from parents who refuse to affirm the child’s gender confusion.
