(LifeSiteNews) – In February, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the unprecedented Emergencies Act (EA) war-measure powers in order to crush the Freedom Convoy rebellion in Ottawa. On October 13, a set of public hearings into that fateful event are set to begin.
Dozens of witnesses, including convoy heroine Tamara Lich and the Prime Minister himself, are set to testify as part of the proceedings.
The question on everyone’s mind is, “What was the rationale to invoke such powers?”
Sure, many left-wing Canadians loved their segregational vaccine mandates, and they thought the truckers were a “fringe minority” and a nuisance. However, the response to the actual invocation of the Emergencies Act has been less than positive overall.
Internal government polling showed that the majority of Canadians thought the Emergencies Act invocation was unwarranted, even if many though the convoy was itself unwarranted.
At the time of the invocation, it was alleged – mainly by Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino – that law enforcement was behind the push for the invocation, but this has been roundly debunked.
