ROME (LifeSiteNews) — The 15 members of the Kyiv Soloist, National Chamber Ensemble, stranded in Italy after the Russian invasion of their homeland, have turned their concert tour into a fundraiser in support of troops back home.

The ensemble arrived in Italy shortly before the invasion and performed in the southern Italian city of Bari on March 2. Since then, they have received daily requests to perform in other cities. Due to the war in Ukraine, they cannot return home. Instead, they are continuing to their Italian tour to call for peace and raise funds for Ukrainian soldiers.

Some members of the ensemble have family members in Ukraine who have been unable to evacuate. Double bassist Igor Patsovskyi has a wife, daughter and mother in Kyiv.

“We had no chance to return to Ukraine now in this moment,” Patsovskyi said in an interview with Euronews. “And we decide to make this work, follow Ukrainians, civilians and (the) Ukrainian national army when we’re playing and we reveal the problem, we reveal the situation that is in Ukraine now.”
