Ukrainian President Zelenskyy bans 11 political parties, nationalizes TV stations to fight ‘misinformation’

KYIV, Ukraine (LifeSiteNews) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that his administration will ban 11 political parties, including the primary opponent to his party, as long as martial law remains in effect.

His security council accused the 11 parties of being closely tied to Russia and President Vladimir Putin.

“The activities of those politicians aimed at division or collusion will not succeed, but will receive a harsh response,” Zelenskyy said on Sunday, according to the Guardian.

“Therefore, the national security and defence council decided, given the full-scale war unleashed by Russia, and the political ties that a number of political structures have with this state, to suspend any activity of a number of political parties for the period of martial law.”

The political parties are primarily socialist. They include the Opposition Platform for Life, which holds 44 seats out of 450 in parliament. Opposition Platform for Life is headed by Viktor Medvedchuk, whom the Guardian identified as “a pro-Moscow oligarch” with close ties to Putin.
