(LifeSiteNews) — On this episode of The Van Maren Show, Jonathon speaks with Canadian conservative commentator Andrew Lawton about the Trudeau government’s censorship of dissent and its strange intransigence toward its detractors.
Beginning the episode, Lawton addressed issues with C-18, a Canadian law that blocks news content on social media platforms under the pretense that linking to pages posted on major news websites is a form of plagiarism. The bill has faced severe criticism for blocking Canadians’ access to news on social media.
Speaking about the effects of the law, Lawton observed that independent media companies were “hardest hit” by the law.
“The stated purpose [of the law] was, ‘Look, we know that news is struggling, we have to give them money because that’s the only way they can survive; these Big Tech companies have a lot of money, we’re going to make them pay,’” Lawton explained, adding that the “whole theft narrative is completely bogus.”
