‘An encounter with God’: Why Christians should listen to classical music

(LifeSiteNews) — Larissa Fedoryka has been performing classical music in concert halls since she was a small child, but the Christendom College music professor is on a mission now to help Christians understand that one’s faith can be greatly enhanced through an appreciation of the music that stands the test of time.

“With music, or art in general, we have a way to encounter God that is not intellectual. Intellectual things can be very intimidating to people, because you think, ‘You’re trying to convince me of something else, you’re trying to change who I am,’” Fedoryka said. “Whereas with art, no one is going to stand on the top of a mountain and see a beautiful sunset and say, ‘Don’t force me to like this.’”

“Very often, we want God to come to us, whereas I think what God is saying is ‘I want you to come up to me. I came to earth so I could elevate you to a higher place.”
