Indian state closes schools over small rise in COVID infections, cites inability to jab children

IMPHAL, India (LifeSiteNews) – The chief education minister in the Indian state of Manipur ordered a state-wide closure of all schools, whether government-run or private, apparently owing to a recorded rise in local COVID-19 infections.

Manipur Education Commissioner H. Gyan Prakash issued his directive on July 12, ordering school to remain closed until July 24 as part of the summer holiday schedule, two weeks after they were originally slated to reopen.

The commissioner’s mandate noted that “a recent increase in absolute number of COVID-19 positive cases” formed part of the reason behind his decision to keep children out of school an extra two weeks, adding that “the test positivity ratio” has surpassed
