A man claiming to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ has been arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in South Carolina.
Joseph Kevin Crump, 42, of North Carolina, is charged with reckless driving, failure to stop for a blue light, leaving the scene of an accident, improper lane change and hit and run.
The chase began when an officer responding to a call at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Garden City spotted his yellow car, which matched the description of one involved in a recent hit a run, reports said.
The officer drew his weapon and ordered Crump to stop, but the suspect refused to do so.
Several patrol cars joined the chase, which reached ‘dangerously high speeds’ as Crump drove through parking lots and against traffic in an effort to evade them.
Police eventually managed to stop the 42-year-old’s vehicle in nearby Myrtle Beach with a spike strip, The Myrtle Beach Sun News reported.
Video taken from a car nearby shows Crump putting his hands up through the window of the car at cops with their weapons drawn.
Crump is reported to have told officers after his arrest that he was ‘the reincarnation of Jesus Christ,’ and that he fled because he thought police were going to kill him.
Cops searched Crump’s car and found a large sum of money, a rare collection of coins and a suitcase, the report states.
But Crump said none of them belonged to him as he is Jesus and has ‘no earthly possessions’.
