Amidst the rubble of a Syrian city, a discovery was made that transports us back to the Roman empire, a time of hiding for early Christians. Ancient ruins of a refuge and a place of worship for Christians have been uncovered in Manbij, Syria. Experts say the ruins might date back to the first centuries of Christianity.

ISIS controlled the territory for over two years and overlooked the ancient underground church, in fact, they used it as a dumping ground for garbage. Unbeknownst to them, the old gate on an empty mound of land ran several feet into the ground to an early church that initially existed under the Roman Empire.

Abdulwahab Sheko, head of the Exploration Committee at the Ruins Council in Manbij describes the discovery to Fox news saying, “I was so excited, I can’t describe it. I was holding everything in my hands.”

“This place is so special. Here is where I think the security guard would stand at the gate watching for any movement outside,” Sheko explained, working his way through what he called the “first location” of the site. “He could warn the others to exit through the other passage if they needed to flee.”

Artifacts with Christian symbols such as crosses and writings etched into stone were brought out of the secret church. Narrow tunnels leading to small rooms with openings for light to shine through the ceiling provided a place for early Christians to escape the Roman Empire to pray and worship the savior of all humanity. The church is complete with escape routes covered by large stones as hidden doors. Three jagged steps lead up to what Sheko believes was once an altar.

Leading American archaeologist John Wineland says that the discovery of a secret church that dates back to the third or fourth century A.D. is a remarkable find.

“They indicate that there was a significant Christian population in the area which felt they needed to hide their activities,” said John Wineland, professor of history and archaeology at Southeastern University. “This is probably an indication of the persecution by the Roman government, which was common in the period.”

Wineland said Christians were persecuted “sporadically at first, and later more systematically by the Roman government.” Christianity was illegal in the Roman Empire until Emperor Constantine decriminalized its worship in 313 A.D.

Christians of the time “met in secret, underground, to avoid trouble. But the Romans were fearful of any group that met in secret,” said Wineland.

“The Romans misunderstood many Christian practices and would often charge them with crimes, such as cannibalism,” Wineland added. He said such charges stemmed from the “Roman misunderstanding of Christian communion where Christ said to take and eat His body and drink His blood.”

Further into the subterranean maze is a “graveyard,” Sheko said, likely reserved for the church clergy. Each tomb there bares an elevated “stone cushion” for the head.

Locals discovered a second location in the town that appears to be a Christian church that was in existence after Roman acceptance of Christianity.

Despite Christianity’s complicated history in Syria, however, Sheko said he wants to make clear his commitment to unearthing and protecting whatever ruins he and his team might find.

“We are Muslim, but we are not like ISIS Muslims,” he said. “We take care of these Christian ruins. We respect them. We respect humanity.”

Currently, a young man and his AK-47 guard the locations. And outside of the nondescript Ruins Council office, precious artifacts are just being left on the street, due to lack of resources for safeguarding and “no museum to put it in,” Sheko said.

The uncovering of these ancient churches tells the story of Christ’s early followers, and their persistence to worship God in the midst of great persecution.

There’s something drastically wrong with this story! ““We are Muslim, but we are not like ISIS Muslims,” he said. “We take care of these Christian ruins. We respect them. We respect humanity.”

Since when do Muslims favor anything “Christian”, or want to protect anything that represents Christ or Christianity? I shared this story with other believers this evening, and immediately they became very suspicious of this statement. It appears that this may be a propaganda piece, finely honed to try to put Islam into a warm and friendly light for the Christian readership.

They also agreed with what I’m about to say…

“And outside of the nondescript Ruins Council office, precious artifacts are just being left on the street, due to lack of resources for safeguarding and “no museum to put it in,” Sheko said.”

Secondly, for the critical thinker/reader, one has to ask why is there only one young man armed with an AK-47 guarding these “precious artifacts”? Who is backing him up? Why is there no safe place to keep them? Hmmm…instead of a solitary person guarding a secret church meeting place, why aren’t the antiquities put in there, out of sight, instead of leaving them out in plain sight for thugs to destroy? That way, they would be “killing two birds with one stone”! Something not right with this picture!

I wish some billionaire like the Amazons owner or Microsoft’s Bill Gates would help these archaeologists and help these great Muslim humanitarians protect these relics for all humanity. It makes me feel embarrassed to say I didn’t know there were kind, intelligent, humane & worthy Muslims who respected another religion and wanted to secure it for prosperity & our world’s future, unlike ISIS who just propagate slaughter & destruction, rape & slavery

I would love to see some group of humanitarians with the ability to secure funds & monetary requirements to work.in liaison with these fine people who have limited resources.
People in the west can learn humility from these good people, just like I have done this day.

Colleen, in case you didn’t see my comment, I’m posting it in a reply to your own… There is no such thing as a “great Muslim humanitarian”; that concept is foreign to them, as confirmed by their own Qur’an.

Hello Skywatcher, Thankyou for replying to my thoughts about this article & I have to concede, you may very well be right in your thoughts that this is a propaganda feel good piece of writing!!! Iv spent my whole life blundering into situations where I get taken by grifters & I don’t seem to have the “bullshit radar” in place, for want if a better phrase, I’m sorry but it’s about the sum of it… Even at 62 years of age I’m still nearly as vulnerable & naive to getting conned as I did when I was a 15 year old runaway.
The sad thing about this story is iv probably misled other naive people who don’t understand the mind of a Muslim person. I hope your answer was public so other people could read what you have emailed to me.

Il not even sure where that site is now where I saw that article. Ive got memory loss problems & ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) – il try to find it & reply to you on the site so others may not be led up the garden path like I am so often.

Thanks again for opening my eyes to this world’s reality. It IS obvious when it’s looked at the way you explain it.
Kind regards Colleen

Hello there, Colleen!

I’m glad I could be there to help you see it from a different perspective! That’s one of the reasons why the Body is made up of many members; we all can bring something different “to the table”, so we can get a good overall picture of what’s going on. I have memory issues too, and I’m only 59 years young. I made my answer public, as well as copied and pasted it to reply to you! Don’t worry, God has everything under control. As we get closer to going Home, the deception is going to increase, and one of the absolutely worst methods being used by the enemy is the infiltration of counterfeit bibles into the Church since the ‘50’s, and pastors don’t care to check into the condemning evidence to see for themselves that they have been duped. There are millions of Christians who are being led up the garden path, and sadly, they will hear the Master say the words of Mt. 7: 20-23 said to them, because they haven’t been careful Bereans.

God bless you! He’s not through with you yet! Remember Prov. 3: 5, 6, and He’ll look after the rest for you!

No wonder they think they are the superior race when lying is an acceptable part of their creed. I wish I, among millions of other people weren’t so blinded by hope.

Hope is a very good thing; without it, nobody would EVER attempt to carry on, and would give up on life and give up the ghost a lot sooner. Without hope, we wouldn’t have the “blessed hope” of the very imminent Rapture to look forward to, to take us out of this evil experiment that global governments have turned life into.

Hope is necessary, but so is having a good balanced perspective and outlook. Stay in God’s Word and tuck it away in your heart, and your ability to discern and to “read between the lines” in a godly manner will become easier for you to do.

Blessings!

I think, once again I have been duped into believing that all people are innately good. I’m afraid I am ignorant and naive to not have put a bit more analysis into this article.

Don’t be too hard on yourself! We are being bombarded by chemicals in the air we breathe (chemtrails), in our foods, in our water, etc., and it’s taking its toll on most people. Add to that the microwave and vaccine damages done to us throughout the years, and we end up with poor critical thinking ability, among other side effects. Thank God, we are soon going to have brand new bodies-by-Jesus! They will be top of the line, with no wrinkles, tears, or blemishes! Maranatha!
