In God We Trust, the national motto, might soon be displayed in Tennessee public schools. The bill had overwhelming success in the state house, with 81 out of 99 members voting in favor of the bill.

Rep. Susan Lynn who sponsored the legislation took the floor to state, “Our national motto is on our money. It’s on our license plates. It’s part of our national anthem,” Lynn said. “Our national motto and founding documents are the cornerstone of freedom and we should teach our children about these things.”

The bill specifies that the motto must be displayed in a place where it can be easily seen by the students.

Now the bill is headed to Republican Governor Haslam for his signature and will take effect immediately if he signs it. The Governor has not ensured anyone that he will sign it, but he has said that he has “never been one that thought that having a motto somewhere changes a lot of people’s thoughts.”

As usual, atheists and the like consider the legislation a way in which the government is endorsing religion. The bills sponsor says because “In God We Trust” is the motto of our country “faithless people” and “people of other faiths” shouldn’t be bothered by it.

One legal battle after another has taken place in the last few years in which the Church of Satan is attempting to have monuments like the ten commandments removed from public property. Sadly, the Satanists have won a couple of the battles. Having the American motto allowed in public school would be a long needed step forward.

Currently several “In God We Trust” bills are under consideration. Like-minded legislation has popped up in Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wyoming, according to news reports.
