President Biden delivered his first foreign policy speech as commander in chief on Thursday, declaring, “America is back… diplomacy is back.”

He announced an end to U.S. support for offensive military operations in Yemen which were aimed at stopping Iranian-supported terrorists from taking over the country.

During the State Department visit, Biden said he plans to pursue diplomacy to end the bloody conflict in Yemen, a move that fulfills a campaign promise.

“This war has to end, and to underscore our commitment we are ending all American support for offensive operations in Yemen, including relevant arm sales,” he said.

Biden says U.S. forces will continue to help Saudi Arabia in the region and announced a freeze of any troop redeployments from Germany.

Biden also addressed China who he called the nation’s “most serious competitor.”

“We’ll confront China’s economic abuses, counter its aggressive (behavior), cohesive action to push back on China’s attack on human rights, intellectual property, and global governance. We are ready to work with Beijing when it’s in America’s interest to do so,” he said.

Then the president turned his sights on Russia, sharing a recent phone call he had with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

“I made it clear to President Putin in a manner very different from my predecessor that the days of the United States rolling over in the face of Russia’s aggressive actions, interfering in our election, cyber-attacks, poisoning its citizens, are over,” Biden said.

He also announced increasing the number of refugees being allowed into the U.S. to 125,000 a year, compared to 15,000 which was the last number under the Trump administration.
