OTTAWA, Ontario (LifeSiteNews) — A Canadian politician has called for the documents allowing protesting truckers to work at their trade to be suspended.
Canada’s Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra encouraged the country’s provinces to suspend the commercial licenses and insurance of the thousands of truckers who are protesting in the streets throughout the country and demanding an end to the nation’s COVID-19 mandates.
“The provinces have extensive regulatory powers over commercial trucking and road transportation to help end this unlawful occupation and disruptions of commercial trucks, blockading the streets and highways,” said Alghabra in a Feb. 7 press conference.
“The powers could include, for example, quickly enforcing the provisions of the Ontario highway safety to begin suspending commercial licenses and also insurance of the commercial owners of the equipment blocking in the streets days on end in a city or on a highway,” he continued. “It’s clear: blockades of streets and bridges is against the law and should bring serious consequences against the owners.”
