(LifeSiteNews) — In addition to the abortion-related amendments on the ballot in a variety of states in next week’s midterm elections, five states will also be casting votes regarding the legalization of marijuana.
While the legalization of cannabis is often thought of as a left-wing political issue, of the five states voting to legalize recreational use of the drug – Arkansas (Issue 4), Maryland (Question 4), Missouri (Amendment 3), North Dakota (Statutory Measure 2) and South Dakota (Initiated Measure 27) – four of them are typically considered to be conservative strongholds in the modern political era.
While the proposals vary in each of the five states, all will be asking their citizens to vote on the legalization of marijuana consumption and possession for those 21 years of age and older.
In Arkansas and both North and South Dakota, a vote in favor of legalization would give citizens the right to possess up to one ounce of the drug, and votes in favor of legalization in Maryland and Missouri would permit citizens to possess 1.5 ounces and three ounces, respectively.
