Description:

Eighteen persons were injured at Mahad, Raigad district, after two buses collided on the Mumbai-Goa highway on Friday morning. Raigad police said that the accident occurred at around 8.30 am, when a Mumbai-bound private bus crashed head-on with a state transport (ST) bus going in the opposite direction. "The ST bus was going towards Mahad, as per its regular schedule, while the private bus was heading towards Mumbai. Both the wounded bus drivers, Surendra Patil and Dilip Shirodkar were admitted to the Mahad Trauma Care Centre Hospital for injuries," said a police official. While Patil has sustained head injuries, Shirodkar injured his shoulder and back. The 16 passengers from the damaged buses were also treated for injuries. Mahad police found that the ST bus driver, Patil, had rashly overtaken another vehicle on the highway to enter the wrong lane and hit the private bus, which was being driven by Shirodkar. Patil has been booked for rash and negligent driving. Police also said that there were 30 passengers in the ST bus, of which 15 were college students.
