In the following verse (Mat 10:29: “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.”) we should remember God knows and cares about such things and even superintends these things … but still the sparrow falls.

The modern trend to deny or downplay genuine problems in a effort to sustain the perception of perpetual giddy happiness is both dishonest and contrary to reality and many biblical examples. In the Psalms King David often openly showed signs of deep despair and depression. In the New Testament, Paul promises all genuine believers will experience tribulation and even persecution, adding that there were moments in his own experience when he even despaired of life itself. Jesus also admitted that In this world “you will have tribulation.” In today’s world we have seen Christians around the globe die horrendous deaths as martyrs. So why are modern Christians so afraid to admit to all of this? The evidence points over and again to the fact that far too many people, including Christians, are increasingly suffering from emotional isolation, unrealistic expectations, dishonesty about their true feelings and situations. We lie to ourselves and others, but in the end we suffer for it. Sure, God helps us when we desperately seek him with obedient penitent hearts, but sometimes His help is to endure the hard times rather than total deliverance from them. God’s word also shows how much we need each other, but our current Christian culture of dishonesty and distrust keeps us from getting the help we need when we need it the most. … Look, those were nice verses, but let’s keep things real. The bible certainly does. Keep it real and balanced.
