The largest solar filament as of today just broke the record for being the largest Solar Filament in recorded history. It is 1 Million KM Long Solar Filament, the growth in just 2 days is exponential. The solar filament is now earth facing, and could prove to be rather dangerous to earth as it erupts.
“It’s a dark solar filament–essentially, a tendril of plasma more than 1,000,000 km long held suspended above the surface of the sun by magnetic forces. If the filament becomes unstable and erupts, it could hurl parts of itself into space. Pieces of the filament falling back to the solar surface would explode upon impact, creating one or more Hyder flares.” –SpaceWeather
Below are images from SOHO:
This filament could be to blame for the delay of Space X’s launch of the new DSCOVR Space Weather Satellite, however the delay is being caused by “radar issues” according to the USAF. The real reason for the delay could be a 1,000,000KM filament that is now earth facing. This filament explosion could be both spectacular and catastrophic, only time tells.
“CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Monday’s attempt to launch a Falcon 9 rocket with a space weather and climate research satellite has been delayed to Tuesday due to unfavorable weather conditions, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The next launch attempt will be at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, according to the NOAA.

SpaceX launch aborted after issue with tracking system
Trouble with an Air Force tracking radar on Sunday scrubbed SpaceX’s first attempt to launch the $340 million Deep Space Climate Observatory mission, or DSCOVR, disappointing spectators, including former Vice President Al Gore, who proposed the satellite in the late ’90s.” –USATODAY
